Trip Checklist

Health

Please make sure you and your children are current on your Hepatitis and other vaccinations

Auto

if you are taking a car, we recommend you check your current auto insurance policy to make sure your car would be covered in Mexico by your current insurance policy.  If you find that you need to buy insurance reference in the Trip Resources & Links section for insurance options.

Money

Bring extra cash in small denominations for tips and small purchases.  You will also need to consider extra meail purchases for you and your family during tihe drive to and from Mexico.

Clothing

Since we will be working outdoors most of the day, pants/jeans and a T-shirt are recommended attire for everyone.  Conservative, comfortable and modest clothing is best.  A hat is also recommended and depending on the time of year a light jacket and rain poncho should also be considered.  Socks and tennis shoes or work boots rather than sandals and flip-flops are also recommended.  Consider packing additional clothes for the evening free time - shorts, sweats, pajamas, etc.   We often attend Sunday service at one of the colonia churches so also consider bringing a set of casual dress clothing.

Food

All of your meals are included.  You might want to bring additional snacks for your family.   Drinking tap water should be avoided.  Each person/family should bring enough bottled drinking water for your family for the entire trip.  A case is recommended.  While  at the orphanage, there will be bottled water available where we stay and used for cooking - coffee, soup, etc. We are very close to many retail stores so if you forget something or run low on water you can purchase these items.   Anything that is factory sealed should be considered safe.

Cell Phones & Computers

Cell phones will work in Reynosa if you have an international calling plan.  Be mindful that per minute charges are usually over $1.00/minute.  If you don't have the international calling plan simply contact your carrier in advance and they can enable your service plan.  With AT&T it is $5.00/month service fee and then the per minute charge with the option to cancel the monthly fee anytime without penalty.  The orphanage has internet access if needed.
